Trail Cam Tuesday - September 27, 2011

I'm gonna make it short and simple this week. The season starts this Saturday, four days left. There's not a sweeter sight to see that what we found on our trail cameras this week. This should be a welcomed sight to any hunter, but with there being some logging done in the area this is definitely a sight for sore eyes!

T-Minus 7 Days...

... until I'll be perched in my treestand. If you follow me on Twitter, you know we've all been talking about it. If you are in the same neck of the woods as Sole Adventure, Hunt Like You're Hungry, or @Mia_Anstine you're one of the lucky ones that has been able to get in the woods and hunt. I know The Will to Hunt, @firstlightgear and I all start on next Saturday on October 1st, I know I can barely wait! I know one thing that everyone above could agree on is. Practice, no matter in-season or still waiting on it to get here, we all need to keep our groups tight, the last thing you need to do is get rusty while waiting on that trophy to walk by.

Trail Cam Tuesday - September 20, 2011

Is it already Tuesday again? Man, right when I thought I was going to be getting back on track I got hit with another wave of homework, quizzes and exams. No worries I braved it pretty well, well at least I think I did. It is now ten days and counting until season starts and I can't wait! I finally made it out to check the trail cams and although there was nothing spectacular, I wasn't disappointed either. Now on to see what everyone else thinks of these pictures.

I know I've put a thousand of these style of bear pictures up,
but there's something amazing about them every time. Obviously, she has cubs close...

It might be hard to see, but I believe I see some blood on those antlers!

Deer Apples?

It's that time again... As you are reading this Jay and I should be on our annual trip to Romney, WV. If you have been following the blog since the beginning you'll know what I'm talking about, if not I'll help you out. About this time last year I made two post about this trip/tradition, you can see them here in "Annual Romney Apple Trip" and "Apples Part II & A Walk in the Woods". So with another year down a truck bed full of apples, here's to traditions and many more years of them to come.

Trail Cam Tuesday - September 13, 2011

Well I was holding out hoping I would make it up on Foggy Mountain today to get some new pictures for you today, but my better judgement won and I didn't go. It's getting close to that time around here where it's better to be anywhere but your stand. It's nearing two weeks that I haven't been to my tree stand or Foggy Mountain period, but I think that will end this weekend. Until then everyone is going to have to take a look at some pictures from late August and the last time we pulled the cards. These are some candid shots and a few nice bucks, hopefully this time next week I have a few new targets for everyone to look at...

It's hard to believe that a year ago today, I made my first post on Foggy Mountain Meanderings. This has blossomed into something bigger than I had ever imagined. It started as somewhere I could track my adventures for myself and have my family members and close friends keep an eye on what I was doing as well as what was happening on Foggy Mountain. Although I have still kept true to my general purpose of that, I have also started doing Gear Reviews, Trail Cam Tuesday, and some what of a regular posting schedule (I'm working on getting back to that). Not only has FMM expanded as far as the content but I purchased our domain earlier this year, and we've even broke into the social media market. You can find us on Twitter and Facebook.

Now onto the stats. In the past year Foggy Mountain Meanderings has had....

There are a lot of people out there that I'd like to thank, but I'm sure I would end up leaving some out! So instead, I'd like to off a thank you to everyone out there reading this. Now to leave you with a little wisdom from my grandfather which is from my first post here on FFM...

"...it began to hit me that the life I lead in the mountains might not be that ordinary. But for those of you that live and breath the outdoors know what I'm referring to, but those series of events have helped me remember a saying, or more so a motto to live by that my grandfather taught me at a very young age. This is something that I've thought, back then, could be mastered in a childhood, but now as an adult have come to realize that this is something you will never fully grasp, even in a lifetime. That motto is to, "stop and smell the roses." Such a simple little line, something you may have even heard a few times throughout your life, but I beg you to heed this advice. Whether you are hunting, fishing, going for a hike, camping, or even just skipping stones across the river, "Stop and smell the rose" for a while. Life will be there, yet the experience that you will take in, just those few extra moments with the people around you or even by yourself will make memories that will last a lifetime. As for where I learned this; It would have been just another hike with my grandfather, but a quarter of the way into the hike we reached the first bench on our way up the mountain, overlooking a one of the West Virginia valleys that Route 50 runs though, and he told me just stop for a moment. I did, but with a dumbfounded look on my face for sure, I asked him "Why?", knowing that he wasn't tired or in need of a break. And right then, at the ripe ol' age of six, I learned one the most valuable life lessons to date, that I still try to achieve to this day, "...just stop and smell the roses for a while. This trip isn't about getting from start to finish, but about taking everything in along the way." That trip, right then, became a memory that will last a lifetime, just a matter of 30 seconds of explanation and few moments of "stopping and smelling" has left an impression me, my life, and my views for an eternity."

Trail Cam Tuesday - September 6, 2011

It seems like the only thing that I am getting to anymore is Trail Cam Tuesday, this isn't by choice, but that will be soon to changing! I'm not going to drag on about school and life, but we all know it happens. Starting this week I am going to go back to my regular posting schedule.

This is some of the great footage that I got from last week, don't pay attention to the time and date on Jay's camera, it severely screwed up, but the problem has been corrected. Here are a few great shot of some bears,  a coyote, and a great looking buck.
